About TagShield
Innovative Solutions for a Graffiti-Free Future
Matryx Consulting is proud to introduce TagShield, a groundbreaking innovation developed in Melbourne. Our recycled plastic panels are set to revolutionise the fight against illegal graffiti by making vandals’ “artwork” illegible and reducing costly maintenance.
Our Vision
We believe our cities can look better.
Repeated graffiti, repainting and reactive maintenance have become normalised across many urban environments, particularly along major transport and urban corridors that shape first impressions of our cities and communities.
Beyond the physical damage, heavily impacted environments can influence how people feel about the spaces around them. For some, persistent graffiti contributes to perceptions of neglect, reduced safety and a loss of community pride.
TagShield was developed to help challenge that cycle through a different approach to graffiti management, with the goal of supporting cleaner, better presented public spaces that communities can feel proud of.
Our Approach
TagShield was developed from more than three decades of experience in security, risk management and crime prevention.
Our approach is based on a simple principle: if the same problem continues occurring, the treatment strategy itself should be reassessed.
Traditional anti-graffiti systems largely focus on ongoing cleaning and maintenance. TagShield was developed to reduce the visibility and recognition that gives graffiti its value, helping make surfaces less attractive targets over time.
The Graffiti Devaluation Strategy
Graffiti is intended to create visibility and recognition. Its value comes from being seen by as many people as possible and remaining visible over time.
This is why rapid removal alone often fails to change behaviour. Even when removed quickly, the image and social reward may already have been captured and shared online.
TagShield is designed to reduce the legibility and recognition that gives graffiti its value. When a surface no longer delivers that reward, it becomes a less attractive target.
Global Impact
The long-term impact of graffiti extends well beyond cleaning costs. Repeated maintenance, repainting, transport disruption and environmental waste place significant pressure on governments, asset owners and communities around the world.
TagShield was developed to support a different approach. By reducing the suitability of surfaces for graffiti, TagShield aims to help reduce ongoing maintenance cycles while supporting cleaner, better presented urban environments.
Patented across 158 countries, TagShield panels are manufactured using recycled materials, designed for long-term durability and fully recyclable at the end of their service life.
Why It Matters
Graffiti management has traditionally focused on ongoing removal and maintenance. TagShield was developed to explore a more preventative and design-led approach, applying principles from security, risk management and environmental design to reduce the attractiveness of surfaces for graffiti in the first place.
For governments, transport operators and infrastructure owners, the long-term impact of graffiti is often driven not by the initial damage itself, but by the repeated labour, repainting, traffic management and operational response required every time a surface is defaced.
TagShield was created to help challenge that cycle while supporting cleaner, better presented public spaces.
Following extensive development and testing, TagShield is now progressing through pilot installations and broader deployment opportunities across Australia.
International Pilot Opportunities
TagShield is currently seeking pilot and deployment opportunities across the United Kingdom, Europe and North America.
We welcome discussions with government, transport and infrastructure organisations interested in exploring alternative approaches to graffiti management in high-impact environments and assessing the suitability of TagShield within their local operating conditions.
